Producers in Front of the Camera: LIZZIE SHAPIRO

Lizzie Shapiro met director Annabelle Attanasio while studying at NYU. Now together, they represent 2/3 of the production company Thick Media and earlier this year, their first feature, MICKEY AND THE BEAR, premiered at SXSW to high praise.

In this interview, Lizzie talks about how their mutual trust and understanding for the vision of the film kept them moving forward even after losing a key investor, a lead actress, and a producer all only three weeks before principal photography. We also talk about what the barometer for success looks like within the indie space and the beauty of making films you wish you had when growing up.

Lizzie Shapiro is a producer based in Brooklyn, NY. She most recently produced the feature film MICKEY AND THE BEAR that premiered at the 2019 South by Southwest Film Festival and L’Acid Cannes to critical acclaim. She has produced several short films that have premiered at film festivals worldwide. Lizzie has participated in the Film Independent Producer’s Lab and IFP Week: No Borders. She is in post-production on her most recent feature film SHIVA BABY directed by Emma Seligman and just wrapped production on Riley Keough and Gina Gammell’s feature film BEAST.
